Competition Format

Eligibility

The Singapore International Science Challenge (SISC) is open to all students 16 – 18 years old in 2007.
Each school is allowed a maximum of 3 teams. Each team should consist of a maximum of 3 students.

SISC 2007 comprises 2 components: Research Project and Science Challenge. Each team will be awarded an Overall Score based on the two components as follows:
Research Project 30%
Science Challenge 70%
Each team should enter at least one project for SISC 2007. The maximum number of projects a team may submit is the number of team members in the team.

The Research Project should involve multi-disciplinary science and will contribute 30% to the Overall Score. For teams submitting only 1 Research Project, the score from the submitted project will contribute to the Overall Score. In the event that there is more than 1 project per team, the best scoring project will be counted towards the Overall Score.
Participants should submit a 250 word abstract which summarises their project to the organisers by 27 April 2007.
Participants are to prepare a display poster on their project for judging. Participants are required to give a short 10 min presentation followed by Question & Answer session with the aid of their poster and/or laptop. Teams which have submitted more than one individual projects may present their projects separately.
The presentation will be judged by independent adjudicators from universities and/or research institutes. Projects which are not presented will not be judged.
Participants are required to be present during the exhibition of their projects and the release of the judging results.
The dimensions of the display poster should be no larger than A1 size (i.e. 594 x 841 mm).
The display poster must clearly state the project title, name(s) of the students who carried out the project and the school name. The poster could contain the following sections: Abstract, Introduction, Theoretical Background, Methodology, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, References, etc.

All participants will be given the theme and scenario of the novel problem, involving multi-disciplinary science a month before the actual Challenge via email to the teacher-in-charge. The actual problem will be released to the teams on the second day of the Challenge. Participants are to present their solution to this problem on the final day of competition. Time will be set aside for participants to prepare for this presentation.
Each team will have 10 min to present their solutions followed by a Question & Answer session.
