welcome message
FROM MR. LIM CHUAN POH,
CHAIRMAN OF AGENCY FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH, SINGAPORE
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural Singapore International Science Challenge 2007.
Advances in science have traditionally propelled a country’s progress by giving it an economic edge and acting as catalysts for societal change. These advances are only possible through strong investments in research and development building on a sound basic education system. Many successful countries invest significantly in R&D, and Singapore is no exception, albeit only more recently. But R&D investments only make sense when there is a group of talented and dedicated individuals willing to go the distance and make a difference to society and the people around them.
The Singapore International Science Challenge is a timely platform for you to learn from each other and also to challenge each other to go further in your pursuit of scientific knowledge. As you share your research with other participants and battle wits in the Science Challenge, we hope that the atmosphere of scientific inquiry and friendly competition will ignite your passion for science and spur you on to pursue a lifetime of discoveries and innovation.
Over the next few days, you will face challenging problems that will confound your scientific mind. But when you pool your knowledge and analytical abilities together, you will find that no problem is insurmountable.
I wish you all the best in the SISC.
Mr Lim Chuan Poh
Chairman
