welcome message

FROM CHAIRPERSON OF SISC ORGANISING COMMITTEE

I am delighted to welcome all of you to Singapore and to the inaugural Singapore International Science Challenge 2007.

In an increasingly globalised world, it is important that students learn key skills in the pursuit of knowledge. Science is a natural way in which these skills can be developed and rigourous competition is the best way these skills can be honed.

It was with these aspirations that the SISC was conceived. Talented students in science from around the world will be exposed to the whole gamut of knowledge and skills required for cutting edge research through an exciting competition.

Many months of planning have gone into the SISC. The result is an exciting new international competition that offers students a glimpse into what lies beyond traditional scientific disciplines. SISC could not have been made possible without the support of the Ministry of Education, government agencies, our staff and volunteers. We are also grateful to our many sponsors who have contributed their thoughts, time and effort into making SISC a reality.

With the participation of more than 150 students from over 25 schools both locally and internationally, the competition will surely be keen. But it is also through the heat of competition that lasting friendships are forged.

I am also sure that the friendships you will undoubtedly forge here will last a lifetime.

I wish competitors all the best in the SISC and a memorable stay in Singapore.
