Junior College is the only junior college in Singapore that offers
the Language Elective Programme in German (German LEP). Our LEP
students do not just achieve a high level of proficiency in the
German language but are also exposed to German history, philosophy,
literature and economics. A considerable amount of time in class
is spent reflecting on German experiences using the Singaporean
context. Through interactive classroom discussions and presentations,
LEP students get to appreciate their own culture and at the same
time relate meaningfully to the German culture. In the process,
they become more aware of their own cultural strengths to be able
to identify and protect them while incorporating desirable elements
from Germany.
Our exciting and unconventional LEP lessons are conducted in
a dedicated German Room. Word games, study cards, performances,
simulated public speaking, drama, movie reviews are some of the
many interesting lessons that break the traditional norm of didactic
teaching. Special teaching methods like video-taping are adopted
for later review of student's performance. Together with peers'
criticism, our LEP students get very accurate feedback about their
strengths and weaknesses.
Beyond classroom lessons, our LEP students are given exclusive
opportunities to be exposed to German culture and language. Some
of these exciting experiential learning activities include |
| |
| |
- four weeks study-cum-exchange programme to Munich,
Berlin and Altensteig
- one week attachment to the German European School, Singapore
- sharing sessions with other German learners in Singapore
(e.g. UWC, GESS)
- excursions to various German institutions in Singapore
